This list will vary by person but at least one of them may make it to your list (hint you can't go wrong with the last one). So, if you are on the verge of moving to the country or thinking about what you may need to prepare for a country move, grab these items especially during Black Friday or Christmas sales in the hardware stores. By the way these will be great gifts to give as well. I could do a longer list because of course, you'll need more than these items, but to keep it short and sweet here are my top 5 recommendations in no particular order.
I've used this device quite a bit to troubleshoot batteries and solar panels. It's under $50 and I recommend having it even for your car to check the voltage of your car battery. This one is a good investment. Just to let y'all know how valuable this tool is among men folk, when one of our church members came out to help with my solar system installation and saw this tool in my shed, he said something along the lines of "what do you need me for?".
I do not know how to use all the features, but I know how to measure voltage and sometimes Amps (still a little flimsy on this one). This came in quite handy when troubleshooting our well pump issues ...smh (shaking my head) don't ask as that is an ongoing issue and a story for an another day.
This is a must have! You can use it in place of a regular screwdriver or as a power drill while working with wood to construct any number of things. You can choose a good one from hundreds of brands available to fit your budget. The Milwaukee drill I bought is part of a 7-tool kit from Home Depot during Christmas sale. If you purchase one (any brand) I highly recommend buying an extra battery to swap out quickly and recharge the other one. If the extra batteries are on sale, buy them instead of a lunch for two at a restaurant these days. Have the food prices gone bonkers or what?
Maybe build a planter box using the drill to hold a 27-gallon container and start container gardening to avoid spending more on food . This is what I was going to share instead of this article but alas the wind came, the planter box had a hard fall, and broke. Sigh! Moving on, why the T25 Torx bits? Well read on and you'll find out.
Hey everyone! Yolan here. Meena gave me permission to hijack her article (sorta). While we really love Milwaukee Tools, we know that they can be pricey. If this isn't in your budget (it wasn't in mine), you can check out the drill that I got. It was under $30 when I purchased it. It's not as powerful as a Milwaukee but it gets the job done and I've been very pleased with it and the battery life. Ok ... back to Meena now .
Most likely out in the country you will end up building something or fixing something you already own. For that I recommend having at hand deck screws of all sizes especially with "star" head or technically known as Torx screws. The ones we have used the most have been 3", 2 1/2", and 1 5/8" sizes. None of us like Phillips head screws anymore. Some among us are passionate about this when screws with Phillips head are mentioned. You'll know why once you try the Torx screws for yourself .
But if you want to know why before trying them first here's a quick explanation from google search: "Phillips head screws are easy to use but prone to cam-out. Square drive screws offer a more secure fit, while Torx screws provide the best grip and torque transfer." These are more expensive but sometimes go on sale on Amazon so keep an eye out for these, snag them up when price is low, and store them away for a rainy day, which is exactly what I did this week. Now these are not tools per se but the tool (Torx bit) comes with them for free! The reason I chose these specific ones is because they come with a longer Torx bit, bonus!
You may already have this at hand. But after talking not so favorably about Phillips, why am I recommending this? Because the world is accustomed to it! This is handy to have in multiples because it seems to disappear when you need it the most.
So, when you want to take a detour with your husband (he will like it) or explore a new world of hardware stores go to Harbor Freight and purchase this one for yourself .
By the way, hand tools from harbor freight come with a lifetime warranty. I just found that out while trying to find the link below. I'm only recommending this one as it is cheap, and I bought it for myself as I was browsing in person, and I like the grip on it.
There are many options out there for you to choose from.
This tool has been incredible! It's my favorite and the reason why my character was holding it . I first bought it because the longer shovel was too heavy for me, and I thought this might come in handy for smaller jobs. However, I ended up using this for digging holes and trenches and it is still going.
I'm thinking about getting another one just as a backup. The reviews are great and seems like 99% of those who bought it would recommend this and I wholeheartedly agree. This is also the cheapest one that I've found that is of a high quality. Get one soon and leave one for me!
